Filter with one half clear and from the middle starts a smooth transition from transparent to full BLUE color. This allows to avoid hard cut-off line on photo at the border between filter halfs.

The main effect of the filter is the lightly darkening red and other similar colors. At the same time blue colored objects will be a little brightened.

Blue filters are commonly used for portraits shoted with artificial light. Artificial light has many red rays. Portrait made with this kind of light looks a little unnatural. This is seen mainly in too bright lips, and face of portrait subject. Usage of a blue filter will darken tones of the face and mouth and brightened blue eyes. The negative effect of this filter is to bring out unwanted freckles and other facial imperfections.

A second, little-known application of blue filter is to use it to emphasize haze of atmosphere in photos of landscapes. Emphasiss haze of distant views is effective method to add into our pictures deep mood and atmosphere.
