Green filter stops the violet rays, and partially attenuating orange and blue, strongly absorbs red rays, and passed through green and yellow. So the effect of green filter is in opposite to effect of red filter. Usage of green filter will darken purple, blue, orange and red objects. Yellow and green color will be brightened.

Green filter is used mostly to differentiate the various shades of green on photos, where this is predominant color. For example, photographing the landscape full of green vegetation with a varied and diversified saturation and brightness, without the filter you get all these types of greenery in the form of spots of a very similar shade of gray. This landscape is monotonous, expressionless. By using a green filter on the lens, we get greater diversification of the various shades of green in a wider variety of shades of gray, and landscape on the picture will be more interesting. Another application of this filter is darker red obiects, and similar.
